So much to be thankful for this year.
“Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday…to be devoted by the people of these states to the service of that great and glorious Being Who is the beneficent Author of all that was, that is, or that will be–that we may then all unite in rendering Him our sincere and humble thanks…
“And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions…to render our national Government a blessing to the people…to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations…and to bless them with good government, peace and concord.”
- George Washington, 1798
Michael landed a job last week! He starts on Thursday morning doing sales with a firm called OurTech Solutions (IT outsourcing). I think he’ll like it – he’s wired for sales, and is so relational and competitive that a job that puts him in front of people is perfect for him. I’m proud of the guy, and glad he’s gonna be out in the working world again, so soon! So grateful for this opportunity for Michael.
On Saturday night I participated in my first art sale! Organized and hosted by my friend, Cheryl, the Crowded House Holiday Art + Craft Sale was a huge success. I contributed three mixed-media collages using old window frames (see photos). I sold them ALL – which was hugely exhilarating! I’ve made pieces for friends before, but creating art to sell, relying only on my right-brain (and some last-minute divine inspiration), and then selling it was really gratifying. It was encouraging to find that people like my art enough to buy it, and fun to be around several other creative women for an evening. I was inspired. Click here to see more photos from the sale, if you’re curious.
It’s a brokedown palace over here this week:
Michael: sprained knee/possible ACL injury (thanks to an early-morning basketball game)
Reese: hand, foot & mouth disease / chest congestion / double ear infection
Lindsay: lower back pain / stretching skin / fatigue / restless legs
On the lookout for some nice stinky cheese to go with this whine.
This is the third week of Michael being unemployed, and at home. A mixed blessing, after a summer of Michael being away from us (working in Des Moines) for the most part. We’re getting cabin fever BIG TIME. My back could not hurt worse this week (left side – no bending over without considerable effort straightening up), and the heating pad/Tylenol combo isn’t helping much. Reese is losing her mind, getting sassy and sick of hearing about ‘baby brotha’. Last night we (I) ate too much candy, waiting around for trick-or-treaters (I guess having a porchlight on and pumpkins sitting out isn’t enough of an attraction. Michael stood on the porch and yelled “GET YER CANDY HERE!” to passers-by. Those lucky kids got handfuls of candy for humoring him.) We came down from the sugar high singing “(Boom Boom) Ain’t it great to be crazy?”, laying in bed, tired but giggling.
