I got tagged by my friend, Becky, to list 10 things about me that you may not know. Becky, you punk! This is going to require some serious thinking. Here goes nothing:
1. I knew Michael when we first started going to Trinity (where he’d attended almost his whole life), and had a crush on him since I was 12 and in the same Sunday school. It would be 4 more years til we’d go on our first date (my first and only boyfriend), and 11 more til we got hitched. At this point, I’ve known him over half my life (and am still nuts over him!).
2. I hate housework in all forms. I’d rather be hanging out. I like a clean, organized house, but it’s a total drag for me.
3. Michael cleans the toilet. I can, but don’t. It’s his one chore.
4. I love mid-century modern design! Step into our home and you’ll quickly figure that out.
5. I never saw myself as a mom – I knew I’d have kids someday, but never put the two together! Duh. It’s taught me to lay down my selfishness. I’m still working on that. My heart has exploded for my daughter – it amazes me, the heart’s capacity to love.
6. My favorite city is Chicago. My kind of town! And the flights are cheap from here.
7. I love to sleep. No, I am currently not depressed. It’s a luxury to me. I haven’t embraced the early morning yet.
8. My favorite book growing up was “To Kill A Mockingbird”. It’s still in my top three faves. I kidnapped my parent’s copy, and wanted to name my daughter Scout. That got vetoed.
9. I haven’t finished college yet. I got pregnant before I could finish. A word to the wise: finish school before you get married! I still plan on going back and getting my graphic design degree. I love art.
10. I love living IN the city. The houses have character (and characters roam the streets!), the neighborhoods have huge trees and old main-streets, and quirkiness lives next-door to sophistication. We’ll probably never live in the suburbs, since Michael’s caught the midtown fever too.
OK, now I tag:

It’s 99 humid degrees out and I’m in the mood for kielbasa and sauerkraut. Go figure. I see a dinner at the Bohemian Cafe in my future.
This past weekend we were lucky enough to get to hang with some out-of-town friends who found themselves in Omaha. Doug & Misty Leslie (Doug is one of Michael’s close friends and mentors…talk to him for any length of time, and you will hear the phrase, “…my mentor, Doug Leslie, used to say….”! it’s almost an inside joke.) were here from blazing-hot Phoenix and we didn’t get any pictures! I guess we were just so enamored with the conversation!
We also got to snag lunch with our friends from sunny Florida, Steve & Randel Hambrick and their two girls….and look at this motley crew! I love this group photo. We have history with these folks. The other two guys were roomates of Michael’s (and close friends), and their wives (including me) are all pregnant with kid #2. It’s a baby bonanza! Next time we all get together, we’ll have to reserve the party room…(DSM readers: we ate at La Mesa, El Rodeo’s flamboyant twin!)
Read this post from my friend, Jane. It’s beautifully written.
Yeah, I know. I’ve been AWOL these past few weeks. But I saw my friend Randel today who told me to dust off the blog and write something already! So here I am – I just got up from a nap, I’m eating Oreos, I have no excuse. Miss me?
An update: the first couple of weeks in Omaha have been a whirlwind. I have told Michael several times and I’ll say it again – the move itself couldn’t have been any smoother, but I am not moving while pregnant ever again! I’ve done it with both pregnancies and this time it almost wiped me out! Rhys is doing better now with the move – she thought we were on vacation and every time we came home for the night she’d say, “Grandpa’s house?” She gets it now. We’re settled in (except for hanging some pictures, etc.) and enjoying catching up with old friends and family. I can deal with the house not being in perfect order because it tells me that I have been busy with relationships – and for me, I’d rather be exhausted from a late night laughing with friends than having a clean house. So that’s really satisfying to me. And probably has helped my first-trimester nausea subside some.
This week, Michael worked back in Des Moines for 4 days – ugh. A necessary evil, a transition, but no fun. Thank goodness I’m closer to my parents, because I had to call on Mom to bail me out on Wednesday….I came down with one nasty cold and a mystery rash (a mild case of shingles?) that kept me up one night and part of the next. Both are gone now, and Michael’s here until Wednesday. I breathe easier.
In baby news, I felt the little bugger move this morning as I was waking up! That was fun, until I realized I had a really full bladder. The moment was over.
And this entry is over. Time to wake Michael and Rhys from their naps. A Sunday afternoon luxury!
